Dallas, TX, June 29, 2026- The United States Artificial Intelligence Institute (USAII®) successfully concluded the USAII® Global AI Hackathon 2026 with a spectacular Virtual Awards Showcase and Closing Ceremony (June 27, 2026, 10 AM ET), celebrating exceptional student innovation, responsible AI, and global collaboration. Bringing together academia, industry leaders, AI experts, mentors, judges, and thousands of students from across the world, the ceremony marked the culmination of one of the world's largest AI innovation initiatives dedicated exclusively to students.
The event celebrated months of learning, creativity, and problem-solving, recognizing students who developed AI-powered solutions that address some of society's most pressing challenges. This year's hackathon witnessed remarkable global participation:
The closing ceremony was hosted by Marci Campbell, Project Director – USAII®, alongside Mike Spaeth, Global Vice President – USAII®, who served as moderator, guiding audiences through an inspiring celebration of innovation, learning, and global achievement. Dr. Milton Mattox, CEO – USAII®, welcomed and congratulated the participants and winners. He also thanked the judges, mentors, and speakers who voluntarily participated and provided the students with their learnings.
A Global Platform for Responsible AI
More than a competition, the USAII® Global AI Hackathon 2026 challenged students to design AI solutions capable of solving meaningful real-world problems while embracing the principles of ethical, transparent, and human-centered artificial intelligence. The winning solutions demonstrated how emerging AI talent can combine technical capability with empathy, ethics, and measurable social impact.
Distinguished Academic and Industry Leaders Inspire the Next Generation
The closing ceremony featured an exceptional lineup of internationally respected academic leaders and AI professionals whose collective message emphasized responsible innovation, lifelong learning, and AI's transformative potential.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Nataliya Shakhovska, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University, one of Eastern Europe's oldest and most prestigious technical universities. Speaking to hundreds of young innovators worldwide, she emphasized that the future belongs not merely to those who build intelligent systems, but to those who build them responsibly, reminding students that resilience, ethical leadership, and human-centered innovation will define the next era of artificial intelligence.
USAII® recognized distinguished educators whose contributions have significantly advanced AI education worldwide.
Among them was Dr. Baraa Al-Alawsh, Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Computer Science at the American University of Bahrain, whose work spans Intelligent Systems, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Image Processing, and Smart Cities while championing greater student access to AI education.
Micah J. Arnold, Chief Product Officer at DeVry University, shared insights on aligning higher education with evolving workforce needs through market-driven AI learning and institutional innovation.
Biswajit Mishra, Global Learning & AI Education Strategist, highlighted the growing importance of practical AI education, organizational capability building, and preparing learners for an AI-first workforce.
The ceremony featured reflections from distinguished industry experts.
Jimish Kadakia, Senior Technical Architect at Snowflake, represented the global mentor community, discussing the remarkable technical maturity demonstrated by participating students and the importance of mentorship in accelerating innovation.
Representing the judging panel, Kesavsundar Gopalakrishnan, Principal AI Engineer at Microsoft, applauded participants for balancing technical excellence with responsible AI principles, noting the impressive quality and real-world applicability of the submitted projects.

The ceremony honored 15 winning teams, awarding cash prizes, USAII® AI Certification scholarships, and global recognition for their outstanding contributions.
